Trauma-Informed Schools Train-the-Trainer Project

The Trauma-Informed Schools Training of Trainers (ToT) project is a joint effort between the City of New Orleans’ Trauma-Informed Schools Learning Collaborative and Tulane University to increase the capacity of the New Orleans schools to overcome the structural challenges of creating and sustaining trauma-informed schools. The goal of trauma-informed schools is to create physically and psychologically safe environments with the goal of interrupting the cycle of violence. We do this by building an understanding of the impact of trauma on school culture, personnel and students.

The project involves having one system-level and one school-level trainee from each school partner attend an 8-day certification training in June. These two people will lead the trauma-informed schools work at their school with support from others in their cohort, champions at their school and our team. The ToT project builds and expands on the work of Safe Schools NOLA and the NO-TISLC Pilot Project.
