COVID-19 Impacts on Educator Well-Being One Year Later

The New Orleans Trauma-Informed Schools Learning Collaborative conducted a survey of 171 educators in June 2021 to understand the ongoing stressors experienced by educators one year into the pandemic. The survey was designed to identify educator needs and gain insight about factors that influence their well-being and their decision to remain in their current roles. This report includes findings related to educator stressors, personal resilience, and mental health. A forthcoming report will include findings related to educator retention. COVID-19 Teacher Impacts and Recommended School Responses

The New Orleans Trauma-Informed Schools Learning Collaborative (NO-TIS LC) conducted a needs assessment to help inform educational policy and the development of resources to address teacher impact and need related to the Covid-19 pandemic. The survey was open from April 30 to May 15, 2020. The primary goals of this needs assessment were to: 1. Understand the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on teachers, their school community, and their teaching. 2. Learn directly from teachers about immediate needs to support their well-being and remote instruction and longer-term needs to prepare for school re-openings and possible re-closings in the future. Schools and COVID-19: Planning for Social and Emotional Supports for School Re-Opening and Beyond

NO-TIS LC organized several webinars during the Summer of 2020 to support school leaders in New Orleans as they planned for the upcoming school year. The webinar covered an introduction to trauma, the potential impacts on behavior, learning and teaching as well as specific approaches to foster student and staff resilience in schools during the COVID-19 crisis. Participants were also given a planning guide that aligned with the LDOE Strong Start Guide and contained material and community resources, an action planning tool and an example schedule. The webinars were open to all school leaders in New Orleans. A copy of the webinar and accompanying materials can be found below.
